by the BCG NILG Team Aloha from Hawaii! We had another wonderful day at the ILG National Conference! Via telecast, we heard from OFCCP Director Patricia Shiu (watch her message online here) and Jacquelin Berrien of the EEOC. In addition to attending great workshops and visiting with colleagues, we chose our raffle winners!
Congratulations to Dana Daniels (University of Missouri, St. Louis) and Sandi Ryder (Weyerhaeuser) –
you each won a Kindle Fire!

Aloha!
Wednesday, August 29th
by the BCG NILG Team Aloha from Hawaii! Our team enjoyed a very full Wednesday at the ILG National Conference. The day started with the opening ceremonies where we watched traditional Hawaiian dancing and heard from fantastic speakers. We were excited to listen to Lily Ledbetter share “one woman’s fight, a country’s new law.”
Throughout the day we attended several presentations and are looking forward to applying what we learned to our AAP consulting.
A few notes from the various workshops:
Policy Division Update:
Debra Carr from the Division of Policy, Planning and Program Development spoke. Her video conference session was well attended by the industry’s lead attorneys, consultants and senior industry professionals. While Ms. Carr was unable to provide feedback regarding several pending changes to the regulations, she did affirm that the OFCCP is making continued efforts to become more efficient and provide better assistance to Federal Contractors.
EEOC Update workshop with Tim Riera:
Claims received by type:
- 37% Retaliation (first time ever to surpass race)
- 28% Race
- 26% Discrimination
- 24% Age
- 12% National origin
- 4% Religion
- 0.2% GINA
EEOC focus for 2012-2016
- Strategic law enforcement
- Education and outreach
- Efficiently serving the public
CCE Presentation on OFCCP Enforcement Trends:
- 1 in 4 audits currently end in a conciliation agreement
- Only 3 violations related to terminations since 2004; 5 related to promotions; 451 related to hiring; 76 related to compensation.
- In 2011: 1109 of 4008 compliance evaluations ended in a conciliation agreement – 638 based on outreach/recruitment and 376 based in record keeping
We’ve said it before, but in addition to all that we learn at the NILG, we really value connecting face-to-face with colleagues. We went to lunch with a few clients today. As you can see from the slideshow below, the Hilton Waikoloa provided a fantastic venue for our meal. Our booth, too, was (and will be all week) a great place to meet up with friends in the industry. Our Test Validation 101 workshop, led by Patrick and Heather, was another fantastic opportunity to connect. We really appreciate the opportunity to not only learn from others in the industry but to give back to the EEO community as well.

by Heather PatchellToday Patrick will be presenting an EEO bootcamp and will cover four primary statistical techniques used in EEO analyses: utilization for adverse impact, the “tipping point” test and multiple regression for compensation, and logistic regression for advanced adverse impact analyses.
Interestingly, we learned Hawaiian mythology has four primary tiki Gods that represent the personification of four forces of nature: Ku – the ancient Tiki God of war, Lono – fertility and peace, Kane – light and life, and Kanaloa – the sea. (http://www.mythichawaii.com/tiki-gods.htm)
While our analyses haven’t quite reached Tiki God status, the four analyses covered in today’s bootcamp can most certainly be forces of nature for helping organizations comply with OFCCP and EEOC regulations. Biddle Consulting Group’s training arm, BCGI, offers our members the training and tools that will be covered in today’s presentation.
