Virtually every major public-safety agency has been sued for some type of employment discrimination. One of the most hotly-contested areas of litigation involves employees who have been terminated based solely on their poor performance. Furthermore, it is well-recognized that the odds of court litigation have dramatically increased as jobs have become more scarce across the nation. This session focuses on proven, court-accepted practices that are more likely to result in performance-based termination decisions being upheld by the courts. It will also spotlight potentially-damaging actions that employers should avoid when making termination decisions based on poor performance.
